Koinonia Clay
Pottery by Mitzie Schafer

Gathering together around a good meal with friends and family builds relationships, and helps create richer lives. Fellowship with community is an important life gift. My appreciation for fellowship and community with friends and family grows out of my knowledge of the love of the Lord for his children, and for his continued work in our lives to bring us into a full relationship with him. The Greek word (κοινωνία) comes from the New Testament, and describes the early church's appreciation for fellowship and the building up of community. Koinonia is the anglicisation of this Greek word. I chose this word for the name of my clay business, because I have a strong desire for my pottery to be used for the building up of relationships with family and friends who gather around them for good food, good conversation, and good wine.

All my pottery is functional along with beautiful. I create as a spiritual discipline. Throwing pottery is a time of prayer and reflection for me. God created us from the clay. God is "the" pottery, and I am blessed to be shaped and molded by his hands in prayer and silence.

Thank you for taking time to visit Koinonia Clay.
